C.M. Murray, “Miss C.M. Murray’s album”, 1829. Manuscript Collection, Rare Books and Special Collections. View the drawing and other exceptional works in the exhibition, Interpersonal Botany, here.

This exceptional pencil drawing is supplemented by a carefully preserved butterfly specimen. It is found within a personal album filled with poems and original drawings. Some illustrations are mounted on the pages while others are sketched directly onto the album’s pages. Only a few are signed “C. M. Murray.” Others, when signed, bear different initials. The poems are written in at least six different hands suggesting that this bound volume functioned as a friendship album.
