Call for Book Chapter Proposals: History of the McGill University Libraries

In preparation for the 200th anniversary of McGill University Libraries in 2029, the Editors invite proposals for original book chapters and short focus texts exploring the history of the Libraries.

This edited volume will highlight new research and fresh perspectives on how McGill’s Libraries have developed over time and how they have supported learning, research, professional practice, and campus life. Rather than offering a comprehensive institutional history, the book will bring together thematic, research‑driven contributions that tell meaningful and sometimes overlooked stories.

We welcome proposals from scholars, librarians, archivists, and other researchers working with primary sources and historical methods. Submissions may explore a wide range of topics related to the Libraries’ people, collections, spaces, services, and communities. All proposals will be peer reviewed.

• Information session: 6 May 2026
• Proposal deadline: 19 June 2026
• Notification of acceptance: 31 August 2026
• Publication: 2029

Language

• Proposals may be submitted in English or French
• The book will be published in English; a French‑language edition is being considered

Appel de propositions de chapitres : Histoire des bibliothèques de l’Université McGill

En vue du bicentenaire des bibliothèques de l’Université McGill en 2029, l’équipe éditoriale invite à soumettre des propositions de chapitres et de textes courts de type « focus » portant sur l’histoire des bibliothèques de McGill.

Cet ouvrage collectif réunira des recherches originales et accessibles qui explorent l’évolution des bibliothèques, leur rôle au sein de l’université et leurs liens avec les communautés qu’elles desservent. L’objectif n’est pas de produire une histoire complète, mais de mettre en valeur des analyses thématiques fondées sur des sources historiques.

Les propositions provenant de chercheuses et chercheurs, de bibliothécaires, d’archivistes et d’autres membres de la communauté sont les bienvenues. Toutes les soumissions seront évaluées par les pairs.

Types de contributions

• Chapitres de recherche (6 000 à 8 000 mots)
• Textes « focus » (1 600 à 3 000 mots) portant sur des jalons ou des études de cas
