Join knitters, librarians, and book-lovers for a monthly fibre arts gathering inspired by the rare items in McGill’s Rare Books and Special Collections. Crafters of all inclinations are invited to bring their own knitting, stitching, or other fibre arts projects and work alongside others in an informal, welcoming setting. All skill levels are welcome!
Whether you are beginning a new piece or continuing a work in progress, Fibres and Folios will be a space to share techniques, exchange stories, and draw inspiration from the textures, forms, and histories preserved in the Libraries’ special collections. Each session will showcase an item from the rare collections—ranging from historical pattern books to artists’ books and printed ephemera—offering a point of connection between material history and contemporary making.
Facilitated by librarian Jacquelyn Sundberg, a collaborator on the Wartime Textiles Research initiative researching textile arts and communications during WWII, this monthly series will bring together handcraft and book history, connecting past and present through making.

Fibres et Folios
Joignez-vous à des tricoteuses, des bibliothécaires et des passionnés de livres pour une rencontre mensuelle consacrée aux arts textiles, inspirée par les pièces rares des collections spéciales et de livres rares de l’Université McGill. Les amateurs d’artisanat de tous horizons sont invités à apporter leurs propres projets de tricot, de couture ou d’autres arts textiles et à travailler aux côtés d’autres participants dans une ambiance décontractée et accueillante.
Que vous commenciez une nouvelle pièce ou que vous poursuiviez un projet en cours, « Fibres et Folios » sera un espace où partager des techniques, échanger des anecdotes et puiser de l’inspiration dans les textures, les formes et les histoires préservées dans les collections spéciales des bibliothèques. Chaque séance mettra en vedette un objet issu des collections rares — allant des recueils de motifs historiques aux livres d’artistes en passant par des imprimés éphémères —, offrant ainsi un lien entre l’histoire matérielle et la création contemporaine.
Animée par la bibliothécaire Jacquelyn Sundberg, collaboratrice de l’initiative « Wartime Textiles Research » qui étudie les arts textiles et les communications pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, cette série mensuelle alliera artisanat et histoire du livre, reliant le passé et le présent par la création.
